MBB’s Board Members

Dave LaSorte

Base: Phoenix, AZ

  • Dave first volunteered in childhood literacy programs in Phoenix, Arizona, then discovered his love for climbing in 2012 and began volunteering with Outdoor Outreach of San Diego, a non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of at-risk youth through comprehensive outdoor education. A dedicated Outdoorist and a member of The American Alpine Club and The Access Fund, he’s also an avid climber, hiker and sailor who has seen first-hand the positive impact that spending time in the outdoors and climbing can have on young people from every background.

Dave brings over thirty years of experience working in the advertising, marketing, and eCommerce industries to the Board, including working with many great outdoor and climbing brands (such as Royal Robbins, Sterling Rope and Gramicci).

Justin Vitcov

Base: Washington

  • Justin started climbing in 1991, and it was love at first sight. He found climbing rocks to be so much more than getting to the top, while also being an opportunity to travel the world, meet people with diverse experiences, and grow as a human being. For Justin, the most important thing about supporting the work of Mountains Beyond Borders is to pass on the lesson that his mentors instilled in him when he was young: that trying hard on the rock doesn't preclude a human being from being humble and selfless.

Justin has had the chance to contribute to numerous community efforts over the years, from raising money to save our local crags to funding climbing trips for underprivileged youth climbers around the world, and contributes his wide experience, network, and knowhow of the climbing gym industry to MBB.

Matt Hulet

Base: Costa Rica

  • Matt has 20+ years working in the climbing industry under many hats, including on the board of Southern California Climber’s Coalition and as a manager for brands, gyms and setting.

May pang

Base: Everywhere

  • We first met through our network of supporters, and quickly realized how important her perspective would be for Mountains Beyond Borders. Living on the road and working remotely, May is a nomadic climber at heart with an education in genetics, and a strong background in management, large-scale projects, communications and writing. May brings to the board her insightful wisdom, and crucial conversations on how to increase our impact in significant ways, include the community in our shared vision, and build our team that help steer the organization.
